Haiti Mission Update

Haiti Mission Update

December, 2012 — Larry Waymire

For almost three years I have traveled to and from Haiti.  I have gone with one primary goal in mind; bring people closer to God through the salvation that is found only in Christ.

Even though there were many obstacles to face, God has turned these into opportunities.  People were hungry and we gave them food and then they were taught the gospel.  People were without shelter and we built houses and then they were taught the gospel.  People were without clothing and medical care and we provided these things and then they were taught the gospel.  Now as we prepare to closeout almost three years of work, what is the next move?

Some of The Accomplishments To Date

We have build more than 120 houses, been able to provide food, clothing and medical aid to 10’s of 1,000’s of people and we have rebuilt five church building and three schools.  I truly wish there was a way you could know the impact this has made on the people of Haiti but neither words nor pictures can truly tell the story.  What we have done together has only touched a few thousand lives yet millions more need assistance.  These things have been done to bring people to Christ and to demonstrate Christian love and concern for our fellow man.  The glory for all that has been accomplished is to be given to God and Him alone; we are but his servants.

The spiritual accomplishments have also been great.  Today we have a restoration period taking place in Haiti.  Several denominational churches are coming to know the truth and renouncing man-made doctrines and putting on Christ as their Lord and savior.  Hundreds of souls have been brought to Christ and now know the joy of salvation.   One man in the northwest part of Haiti has planted four new congregations in the past year.  Another man who came to know Christ said, “I must take this message to my family and friends” and in the last year he has planted seven new congregations.  To God belongs the glory!!

Future Plans

So, what is next?  What do we do with hundreds of new Christians and entire congregations who are desperately seeking to know the truth?  The answer is found in the great commission, “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, all power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. (1) Go ye therefore, and (2) teach all nations, (3) baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  (4) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” (Matthew 28:18-20)   Our mission is to continue to teach them to be all God intends for them to be.  Have we been able to hold every person who has been baptized into Christ?  No, but we have been able to hold many and they are growing in their faith.

Our plans include many areas of work that will continue to open doors, strengthen the new Christians and encourage the stronger members.  I plan to continue our work by taking groups that will conduct vacation Bible schools, gospel meetings and help those who are in need.  I will continue to travel to many parts of Haiti and conduct preacher training classes and seminars.  There will be groups who will travel with me that will conduct seminars on family enrichment, training Bible school teachers and developing church leadership.  Plans are under way for starting a school of preaching in the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince, and to have satellite schools for preacher training throughout the island.  Education of the children through church schools will play an important role in shaping the future of the church and the nation.

How Can We Accomplish These Dreams and Goals?

We know that if we are seeking to do these things on our own it will be impossible, but if God be for us who can be against us?  Paul told the Christians at Ephesus, “be strong in the power and God and his might.”  We must continue to trust God’s wisdom, guidance and power.  We must remember, God is still in control!  Prayer is powerful but God also expects action on our part.  Therefore, we seek your financial help to carry forth the work that is needed.  Your help through monthly support or a one-time contribution can and will help us reach our goals.  At this time we have a wonderful opportunity and the future of the church in Haiti has never looked brighter.  But we know the door will not remain open forever and there are many false teachers who are in Haiti.   Therefore, the time to act in now!

Thank you in advance for your prayers and for your consideration for helping in a financial way to the work in Haiti.  May God continue to use us as we continue to serve Him.

In Christian Love,

Larry Waymire
